Commute Cost Calculator
Calculate the true cost of commuting-time, fuel, public transit, parking, and workdays per month or year.
Breakdown
How It Works
Commuting costs are more than fuel or a train ticket. The real cost combines (1) direct expenses and (2) the value of your time spent traveling.
This commute cost calculator estimates your daily, monthly, and yearly commuting cost using your workdays and commute time. You can calculate for driving or public transport and include optional costs like parking and tolls.
- Time cost: Hourly rate × commute time × workdays.
- Direct costs: Fuel or transit tickets/pass + parking + tolls.
- Totals: See daily, monthly, and yearly commute cost instantly.
About This Calculator
Use this tool to compare job offers, evaluate remote work, and estimate the true cost of commuting for budgeting. Small changes in commute time and workdays can add up to a meaningful yearly amount.
- Compare jobs: Longer commute can reduce your effective pay.
- Budget smarter: Plan monthly costs including parking/tolls.
- Car vs transit: Try both modes and compare totals.
FAQ
What does this commute cost calculator include?
It includes your commute time value (based on hourly wage), plus direct commuting expenses like fuel or public transit tickets, parking, and tolls. You can calculate daily, monthly, and yearly totals.
How is commute time converted into money?
We estimate an hourly rate from your annual salary (salary ÷ 2080). Then we multiply it by commute time per day and number of workdays.
Should I include benefits and overhead in salary?
If you want a more realistic “fully-loaded” time cost, you can increase salary by 20–40% to reflect employer costs. Otherwise, keep salary as your gross annual salary.
Can I calculate commute cost for public transport?
Yes. Set the mode to Public Transport and enter your ticket/pass cost per day (or per month). You can still include time cost if you want.
Is this exact for taxes and deductions?
No. This is a planning estimate. It doesn’t include taxes, depreciation, maintenance, or country-specific rules unless you add those costs manually.
